High-Profile Cooking Competition Showcases Talented Yacht Chefs

Yachting and fine #food are meant to be enjoyed together, and the elite world of megayachts requires a unique type of culinary master to manage the menus. Four of the world’s leading yacht chefs battled for  Wine Enthusiast ’s Best Yacht #chef award at the first ever “Iron Chef-style” competition at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show on Thursday evening, November 1, 2018, at Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina in Fort Lauderdale. Chef Eric Davis, of the 116-foot #superyacht KIPANY, won first place for his exquisite three-course menu, which included: 
  • First Course: West Indian Spiced Seared Scallop, Butternut Squash, Pumpkin, Port Mulled Shallots, Rogue Smokey Blue Foam and Curried Pumpkin Seed
 
  • Second Course: “Autumn Fowl Five Ways" - Chana Masala Crusted Duck Foie Gras, Rendered Duck Rilletes, Medallions of Smoked Duck Breast, Curried Breast and Leg of Petite Poisson Rouge, Pickled Candy Cane Radish, Baton of Harvest Root Vegetables, Truffled Turnip Puree and Blackberry Caviar
 
  • Third Course: Pecan Smoked Pumpkin Cheesecake Mousse, Fresh-Made Honey Comb, Honey Dust, Dragon Fruit, Pomegranate and Grape and Fig Port Reduction
 Chef Davis was assisted by Amelia Rachlin, also of KIPANY. This is not the first time in Davis’s 25-year career that he has snagged the top spot in a prestigious yacht #chef competition. In 2016, he won first place at the Antigua Charter Boat Show Concours du #chef.   Davis faced extraordinarily talented competitors, each of whom is recognized as an outstanding yacht #chef: Joel Collado, Freddy Money and Chris Parthemore.  “The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is a luxury lifestyle #event, and few things celebrate luxury more than extraordinary cuisine," said Lana Bernstein, vice president of marketing, Informa U.S Boat Shows. “Everyone who attended our first yacht #chef competition was excited about getting a rare a glimpse of the amazing creativity and culinary skills that top yacht chefs are known for.” More than 300 guests attended the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show’s inaugural #chef competition and enjoyed gourmet tastings paired with fine wines from Grands Chais de France Group and premium spirits, including specialty cocktails by Maker’s Mark ® . “Pier Sixty-Six is one of Fort Lauderdale’s premier yachting destinations, and hosting this inaugural competition was an honor and another milestone in the property’s rich history,” said Amaury Piedra, general manager, Pier Sixty-Six Hotel & Marina. “Our marina, filled with some of the world’s most impressive superyachts, served as the ideal backdrop for this highly-successful culinary #event.” Celebrity #chef, author and recipient of the 2018 Hispanic Heritage Award for Culinary Arts Ingrid Hoffman served as emcee.
