Festive mood and joyful anticipation of an art-filled 2024 at the Fondation Beyeler

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

The Fondation Beyeler will remain open daily all through the holidays, welcoming visitors for a relaxed visit to the museum, which is humming with the joyful spirit of Christmas. As the cold and the grey draw in, the richly coloured artworks in the exhibition rooms shine and glow all the more enticingly. The exhibition «Niko Pirosmani» (through 28.1.) and the current collection display «From Cézanne to Tillmans» (through 2.1.) remain on view into the month of January.

We are also filled with joyful anticipation of the art-filled year ahead at the Fondation Beyeler, with the upcoming «Jeff Wall» exhibition devoted to the Canadian artist and his powerfully affecting photographic work. We are of course also looking forward to the highly popular yearly «Museums Night» on 19 January, which will once again kick off an eventful year.

We look forward to welcoming you for these and further exhibition and event highlights in 2024!

An exhibition at the crossroads of tradition and modernity: «Niko Pirosmani»
17 September 2023 – 28 January 2024
Niko Pirosmani’s deeply expressive works remain on view at the Fondation Beyeler through 28 January 2024. The Georgian painter knew how to show the essence of things with just a few colours and brushstrokes. In paintings of brilliant simplicity and elegant sincerity, always also imbued with a touch of wonder, he proved himself a master of reduction to essentials.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity and immerse yourself in the wonderful world of the legendary and mythical painter!

The Beyeler Collection: «From Cézanne to Tillmans»
12 October 2023 – 2 January 2024

The current collection display offers novel insights, unfamiliar perspectives and inspiring encounters – on view through 2 January 2024.

Launching into the new year, the Fondation Beyeler will devote a comprehensive solo show to Canadian artist Jeff Wall (b. 1946). Featuring more than 50 works spanning five decades, the upcoming exhibition will present the full range of the founder of staged photography – from his iconic large-scale transparencies displayed in lightboxes to his large-format black-and-white photographs and inkjet colour prints. The exhibition has been conceived in close collaboration with Jeff Wall himself and will place particular emphasis on works produced in the last two decades, among them photographs on public view for the very first time.

From 2 January 2024, book reduced-price «early bird» tickets for the «Jeff Wall» exhibition, available online for CHF 20 instead of 25.

Summer Show 19 May – 11 August 2024
For the first time in the Fondation Beyeler’s more than 25-year history, the entire museum and its surrounding park will become the setting of an experimental presentation of contemporary art.

In autumn, the Fondation Beyeler will host the first large-scale Henri Matisse retrospective in the German-speaking world in almost 20 years! Featuring more than 70 key works, the exhibition will span the full range of the artist’s dizzying output – from his early works to Fauvism and the legendary cut-outs of the later years.
